JD 3010 rebuild #6 The Balancer

I started working on the balancer that bolts to the bottom of the engine inside of the oil pan. The gears had more play than I like to see so I disassembled it a replace the bushings and shafts. The picture has 1 new shaft(the shiny one) and 1 used shaft(the other one) and you can seethe new bushings in the balancer housing. The picture also has 1 of my hammers and a socket with an extension. Yes, the socket is on the extension backwards. I have broken the head of the extension trying to loosen a bolt that did not want to be loosened so now I used it as a drift. I put it in the socket backwards to make a bushing driver to install the 4 bushings in the balancer. It worked real good. And again this is my handfull of tools and a hammer!!

Last Call for Edmund Antique Tractor Pulling

Even Baxter and Baylee like tractor pulls!! However, last Saturday was the last pull for Edmund Antique Tractor Pull. We pulled here for 2 seasons and it was the best facility, best sled ,best track in South Carolina. There were always a good number of tractors there to play but not a lot of spectators. The spectators like the fast, loud tractors and trucks and a lot of smoke and the noise ordinances would not let them run on a Saturday in the middle of the day. I still believe a person should be able to use their property as they wish. After all, they are the ones paying the taxes on it and making the payments on it. And to show how idiotic the county council is another person has bought a sled and will be having pulls in the same county and has been told he will not have any problem getting the permits to have a pull. Same county, same county council, you would think the laws/rules would apply the same to everyone!

This year has been tough on tractor pulling events, 2 in GA have shut down and 2 in SC have shut down. There are 2 in SC that will start up next year, at least they are being talked about .

I wanted to start to work on mine and Linda's tractor but I think I will hold off until I see what the new rules are for the new guys.

Richland Creek Revisited

Linda pulled in 2 classes 6000 lb & 5500 lb. In the 5500 lb she got a second place trophy. This was good considering it and the 6000 lb class were the largest classes there. There were about 15 tractor in each class. We have a good friend who has pulled there 13 years and only got 2 trophies the whole time. He had told me earlier that I probably would not get a trophy the first time. So for us to get trophies on the first trip is real good!!!
There were 75 to 80 pulling tractors there from several states. Next year we will be better prepared for the track and the competition.

Richland Creek Antique Fall Festival

Friday night I went to Ward SC to the Richland Creek Antique Tractor Pull. I pulled in 2 classes Friday night, 7000 and 7500 lb class and got 2 second place finishes. All of us that were there Friday night like to have froze. It must have been in the low 30's. My second pull was about 9:30pm and I sat on the tractor and shivered while waiting to pull. The pull was over about 10:30 and the time the lights went out it got real quiet fast!!! . I spent the night in the sleeper of my truck and could not hear any noise.
Saturday was nice and made a perfect day for pulling. I pulled in the 7000 lb class and got a first place trophy. Then I pulled in the 6000 lb class and got a second place finish. I think that made a pretty good day! I was the only tractor from SC in each class. The other tractors were from GA and TN.
This was a tractor show and pull. There were over 100 tractors on display anywhere from 10 hp to 275 hp tractors with a lot of different makes and models on display. They were running a JD Thresher that was powered by a belt that was ran to a 2 cylinder JD tractor. There was a wood plane powered by a JD H tractor and it was also ran off a belt. They had the rear tire of the tractor ran up against a post in the shed to hold it in place. There were steam tractors running at the show. There was a sorghum mill running. They were actually running cane through a sorghum mill to squeeze the juice out of the cane. They strained the juice and poured it in a stainless steel pan to cook it. As it was starting to heat up they would scoop the impurities off the top of the juice and then they boiled the juice to make molasses syrup. You could see the whole process from the beginning to the end. They had a blacksmith shop where they were making wagon wheels. The hub and spokes of the wheel were wood with a steel ring on the outside of the wheel.
If you have not been then you should make plans for next year. If you are pulling anywhere in the southeast then this should be a "Must BE There TO Pull" event. It is a little different from anywhere else I have pulled in SC GA or NC.

New Puller!!

Last Friday evening my newest pulling tractor was delivered! Larry I think I will paint it Orange!! This is a JD 4010 diesel. It currently has a combine engine in it. I think it will be changed to something else, maybe a 466 with a P pump . Well I can always dream!!!!!! Maybe I will paint it green with an orange P-pump. That should make it stand out and get attention.
