Tractor Pulling in Oakboro NC

I went tractor pulling at Oakboro NC this past Saturday. I wanted to try out my new tires and rims to see how they would pull on different dirt against good competition. I got first place finish in 8000 lb super and second place finishes in 6000 lb and 7000 lb super. In the 6000 lb class I was 2 feet behind first place and in the 7000 lb class I finished at 324.51 feet, the winner finished at 324.58 feet. That is good pulling whether first or second place!!! In the 8000 and 7000 class I let the tractor lug down to about 1100 to 1200 rpm before I pulled the TA. Each time the engine came back and I pulled an additional 60 feet. Normally, the tractor would have spun out and I would have stopped right there. I think the combination of a real good track and the wider rims and tires kept me hooked to the track so the TA worked perfectly!
IT was hot!!!! but all in all it was a good day.

Larry, This one's for you

This is a AC CA tractor. I have cranked it up and it runs good. The gas tank had some extra bullet holes in it and the rear tires were already off it when I got it. See, we do have some orange tractors here!

Fresh Parts

I got a JD 1020 diesel with a bad engine in for salvage. It spun a rod bearings and the crankshaft is .004 inches out of round. If I fix it I will have to have the crankshaft ground or either put a new one in it.

JD 3010 Engine Rebuild #4

Well my having it done by the weekend kinda got postponed. I cleaned the camshaft up getting it ready to put in the block and the #1 lobe did not look right. I got the calipers and started measuring. The lobe measured .041 inches less than the other lobes. Which means the valve would not open when it should and would not stay open long enough and then it would close early. This is an exhaust valve lobe . The valve closing early would prevent the cylinder from scavenging like it should which could cause it to run a little hotter than it should or skip and sputter. There would be at least a loss of horsepower.
I have a good used cam on order and it should be here tomorrow on the little brown truck. Then I will be back to work on the engine.

My Help

My name is Baylee. I help Dad get his tools and parts and make sure no one can sneak up on him while he is working. If you come and see Dad I will bark at you and then find somewhere to hide til you go away.
If you come bring greenies or dog biscuits . I will like you until the biscuits run out. Then, I will bark at you somemore!

JD 3010 Engine Rebuild #3

I finally got the pistons in the JD 3010 block. This is a wet sleeve engine which means that the water that cools the engine runs on the back side of the sleeve. It also means that the sleeve is sealed at the bottom with 2 orings that keeps the oil in the bottom of the engine and the water behind the sleeves. It really does not pay to mix the water and oil. The sleeve is sealed at the top with the head gasket. The next thing I have to do is install the camshaft and lifters, the timing gears and the rear seal. Then I will be ready to put the head on the block. Maybe, by the end of the week I can get this done.

Testing the New Tires

I pulled at Lexington SC this Saturday with my new rims and tires on my SMTA tractor. I still ran out of traction. However, I ran out of traction 10 feet past my competition that I had never beat before Saturday. I had been pulling against" mpuller" for 1-1/2 years and had never beaten him. I had been close within 2-3 feet and I have been as far as 40 ft behind him and would always run out of traction and spin out. So yesterday I was a happy camper!!!! All the hard work paid off. Larry see what you missed by not being there.
