JD 3010 rebuild #5

In the first picture you can see Baylee supervising and making sure the timing gears are timed properly. The bottom gear in the picture is the crankshaft and the big gear on the left is the camshaft gear. The camshaft makes 1 revolution per 2 revolutions of the crankshaft. It has to be timed because the crank , camshaft and valves work together to get air in and out of the engine. In a diesel engine it takes air, fuel and compression to make the engine run and create horsepower. I have got the head bolted on the block and have to adjust the valves to finish the top of the engine. I will try to get some pictures of it tonight.
The gear to the right of the crankshaft is an idler gear and it turns an air pump that goes in the hole just to the right of the idler gear. Maybe this weekend I will get it mounted.
That's all for now!
